The City of Seattle is fortunate to be the home of many outstanding,
compassionate individuals who play a crucial role in the health of our
community's children; and UNICEF works in more than 161 countries and territories providing health care, clean water, improved nutrition and education to millions of children; and Carol Bellamy, Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund will visit Seattle to present "A World Fit for Children', a public forum to expose the Seattle community to the important work UNICEF does in helping children of the world have access to necessary medicines, food and clean water; and The Seattle Chapter of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF will partner with Seattle arts organizations to host the second annual Art of Change, a month-long series of art exhibits and events celebrating the power of art to effect social change; NOW, THEREFORE, I, GREGORY J. NICKELS, Mayor of the City of Seattle, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2002 to be UNICEF MONTH in Seattle and I encourage all citizens to join me in supporting UNICEF in its efforts to create a better world for children by promoting education, freedom from disease, protection from violence and exploitation, and early childhood programs for children everywhere GREG NICKELS
