   October is National UNICEF Month

On September 25th, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, declared     October National UNICEF month and issued a formal     proclamation that was handed to UNICEF Executive     Director, Carol Bellamy, during a VIP reception held in     her honor at the University of Washington's Kane Hall.     Afterwards, about 300 people attended her talk on "A     World Fit for Children" and we could not have asked for a     more auspicious beginning to the second annual Art of     Change for UNICEF, Seattle's celebration of national     UNICEF month.

What is the Art of Change?

Every year in airports across the country, foreign coins are collected from returning travellers. Most of these     coins cannot be redeemed and have no value other than as scrap metal. For American travellers this small     change is a negligable part of the cost of a vacation. But for large parts of the world - where pennies can     make the difference between health and sickness, life and death, this small - change can mean a lot.

The Art of Change asks us to examine what we value in life. The Art of Change is the creative process in     service of social consciousness and a vehicle for contributing to social change.

Sponsored by the Seattle Chapter of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Proceeds will go to support UNICEF's Global Girls' Education Program.
